Maternity Reflexology to support your pregnancy journey
Enhance your wellbeing during pregnancy with maternity reflexology. Want to put your feet up, relax deeply and enjoy some me time? Or perhaps you are experiencing some of the untold joys of pregnancy such as nausea, backache, swollen feet, constipation, anxiety, disturbed sleep? Then reflexology is for you!
What is reflexology?
Reflexology is an ancient, natural and holistic therapy. It is based on the principle that the entire body is mapped out on the feet. Specific points known as 'reflex points' correspond to the organs, glands and systems of the body. By stimulating these points with pressure techniques, therapeutic changes can occur in the body, helping to bring the body back into a state of equilibrium, known as homeostasis.
Reflexology is a powerful, relaxing therapy for both mind and body. Regular treatments throughout your pregnancy can have a positive effect on alleviating many pregnancy associated ailments and have a beneficial effect on your labour and birth. Don't take my word for it, check out some of the pregnancy reflexology reviews or check out Facebook and google reviews.
Regular reflexology treatments during pregnancy has been shown to help start labour naturally with fewer reported interventions during birth. A UK maternity hospital recently conducted a study comparing outcomes of 100 pregnant women who received reflexology treatments in pregnancy to women who received no treatment. The results showed that the women who received the treatment had on average a 4 hour shorter labour, as well asreduced birth interventions and reduced analgesia uptake.
When can I start having REFLEXOLOGY treatments during pregnancy?
As I am specifically trained in maternity reflexology, I can offer treatments throughout your pregnancy.
How long does a session last?
The initial session is 75 minutes, each session thereafter is approximately 1 hour in length
What happens during a session?
During the initial consultation, a health medical questionnaire is undertaken before we start the treatment. Shoes, socks or tights will have to be removed. Most people wear leggings or loose clothing so that the feet and up to below calf can be accessed. Once we start the treatment, I prefer to remain silent so that you can fully relax, drifting of to sleep is a common occurrence!
